>Bob Sutor has a good high level presentation on the challenges that standard groups run into. The thing is, the same issues that standards groups face, are the same challenges that eclipse as a community faces. There is a lot of parallelism between good global standards and good global open source products.
One of the biggest keys I took away from reading the presentation is that in too many cases, people don’t necessarily put what is best for the Community above what is best for their individual companies. It’s a balancing act that is difficult to master, especially when a company is paying for membership so needs to have their needs met. However, sometimes those individual company needs conflict with those of the community.
